"The rara" (30 x 40 cm)

Jean-Claude BLANC is one of the most appreciated and well-known painters in Haiti.

He was born on April 24, 1965 into a modest family. His father is a caretaker and his mother a vegetable seller. His father supplemented his income by becoming a renowned raw boiler, specializing in the distillation of "clairin", a powerful and cheap rum much appreciated by Haitians.

Jean-Claude began painting in the early 80s and joined the Atelier de "L'Arc en Ciel" in Cap-Haïtien in 1983 where he was a student of Laetitia Schutt, a painter of German origin who founded this school with Max Gerbier.

His works are now present in almost all galleries in Haiti, from Cap-Haïtien to Port-au-Prince, including the Monnin Gallery and the Nader Gallery which have helped to make his work known abroad.

Settled in the capital for a few years, Blanc lives only from his work as an artist, and many art professionals are now interested in his work, such as the Macondo Gallery in Pittsburgh or the Tropical Art Gallery in Sanary in France. Many of his works are also presented at the Haitian art center in Nice, the "Espace Loas".
