"Toussaint Louverture" *** 40 x 80 cm *** (excluding frame) sold with frame...

Gerard Fortune, born in 1930, is considered the most important "primitive" of his generation, and is featured in Selden Rodman's Art is Joy: Haitian Art (The First 40 Years 1988). After working as a cook and at odd jobs for most of his life, he began painting in 1978.
He is completely self-taught.
In the late 1980s, Gerard was internationally recognized by art historians, museums (permanent collections of Ramapo University in New Jersey, Waterloo Museum of Art in Iowa, and Musée d'Aquitaine in Bordeaux) and private collectors around the world. The work in our possession dates from this exciting period.
It's a great choice.
