"Toussaint Louverture" - 40 x 80 cm - (excluding frame) sold with frame...

Gerard Fortune, born in 1930, is considered the most important "primitive" of his generation, and is featured in The Art is the Joy of Selden Rodman: Haitian Art (The first 40 years 1988). After working as a cook and in odd jobs most of his life, he began painting in 1978.
He is completely self-taught.
In the late 1980s, Gerard was internationally recognized by art historians, museums (permanent collections of Ramapo University in New Jersey, the Waterloo Museum of Art in Iowa and the Aquitaine Museum in Bordeaux) and private collectors from around the world. The work in our possession dates back to this exciting period.
It's a great choice.
